Prior to your RMR test, you should not participate in any strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours and must fast overnight for at least 8 hours. This test is typically done in the morning. At the beginning of the test, you will be resting in a dimly lit room for about 30 minutes. A breathing mask will be placed over you mouth and nose and you will breathe as you normally would. Tubes from the breathing mask are connected to a computerized machine that analyzes the air you exhale.
